INTRODUCTION
Prevention activities have been ongoing throughout Saginaw County, yet substance abuse is on the upswing. In 1996, 2001 and 2003 Saginaw County Community Health Assessments revealed substance abuse as one of the County's top health issues.

This information, along with increased concern from the community brought the Saginaw Police Department, Board of Education and the Substance and Abuse Treatment and Prevention Services together. They developed a county-wide program entitled Family Youth Initiative (FYI).

FYI engages the youth of the community and their families in an approach that enhances their self-concept and reduces or eliminates their exposure and use of substances in a drug-free environment.

FYI recognizes that positive change is only likely to occur with the full cooperation, assistance and direction of the schools, community, police and family.

MISSION
FYI provides youth between the ages of 10 and 20 with a drug-free environment with encouragement to complete high school. The FYI prevent program provides youth and their families with life-long strategies for success.
