Race update.

We were all wet but I must admit---it was a fun run! It was my first 5K ever and to run in the pouring rain was a blast! And, what a cool course. To go over both bridges in bay city was really neat. Thanks to all my friends at Catholic Federal and to my trainer, Ann Gasta, who got me to the finish line. I am especially grateful the proceeds will go to the Toni & Trish house for the terminally ill. It's a home in bay county that accepts the sick and dying from the tri-county area. The home is a non-profit that doesn't charge guests a penny to stay there. It's a true charity no doubt. If you would like to donate you can do so by heading to toniandtrishhouse.org.

Thanks for reading and peace--

Katie

You may have heard. I'm running again. On August 8th I will run my first 5 K in 12 years. I gave up running when I decided to have four children---you may/may not know how that goes. It's a time issue for most, but now that Rosie is sleeping through the night, I can get up and get a run in before Terry heads off to work.

Let me tell you---it has been great! I feel like a different person:)

Watch: TV5's Katie O'Mara Trains For 5K Run

The Catholic Federal 5 K race is Saturday August 8th at 10:30 a.m. in Bay City. It's part of the Pig Gig festival. This race will be so cool because it's going to take us across both bridges in Bay City, and, part of the proceeds will go to "The Toni & Trish House." It's a home in Bay County where volunteers care for the dying. And, the guests don't have to pay a penny. I love this charity. It's the real deal!

I hope you can join me for the run. You can sign up that morning of the race, or, head to Piggig.com---any Catholic Federal Credit Union, or, WNEM.COM---look for "Pig Gig" in the hotlinks section.

Help me get across the line:)

I took Joe and Rosie to the playground the other day.

Seriously, I'm no great photographer with my cell phone, but I think I captured the cutest picture. It reminds me of something Norman Rockwell. The two of them were playing hide-n-seek and Rosie was so excited Joe found her, she just had to jump out of her spot.

I was smiling the whole time---

Isn't this just adorable?

Honestly, this is why I love being a mom.

I have never done this in my life, but what a blast!

Got the old face painted as I attended game 7. What a complete blast! I know the outcome of the game wasn't what we all wanted, but it was fun being there and watching those crazy Red Wings fans. I must admit, the Penguins have pretty dedicated fans too. When they scored, the place went nuts!

I will tell you this--the only thing I didn't like was when time ran out and the Penguins were being honored, the crowd booed. I felt bad because I think we have more class than that. I understand the feeling of losing, but it was a deserved celebration for Pittsburgh. They worked hard and are a deserving team. Plus, there's always next year!

I cannot believe what happened to me last weekend. I had to take my daughter to get new shoes. Kenzie just turned 11 and I know her foot was 81/2 women's. I thought maybe a 9 or 91/2. We got to the store and measured her foot---10.

A ten! What?

I just gave birth to her at mid-Michigan medical center, don't you remember? I was showing her off in a live shot with Sam back at the studio. This isn't right! Can someone please stop the process of maturing. A ten! I wear a ten and that's after four pregnancies. My babies stretched my feet---no kidding, they do that. I was a 9 before babies, now I'm a ten. And, now my baby is a ten. This isn't right. Who do I call?

My birthday is coming up. I will be 41.

It's okay, I'm good with it. It was 40 that put me over the edge, but I've had a year to warm up to the idea that this is life. So, I was putting Joe-Joe down last night. He says "mom, what do you want for your birthday?" I said, "hugs and kisses, and maybe a really nice picture that you draw me." He said, "mom, those aren't presents, what do you want?"

I replied "just hugs and kisses honey, nothing else." He said, "mom, okay, you can have a train, boat or airplane. Which one do you want?" I started laughing out loud and answered, "Oh buddy, how about an airplane?" After much discussion, he decided I'm getting a white airplane with a red stripe and a small boat for the bathtub.

I love being a mother and I love turning 41--never felt more like a kid:)

I've been doing television news for a long time. I'm just about into my 13th year here at TV-5. We aired a story recently about two mid-Michigan families who lost loved ones but ended up turning their grief and pain into something incredible. Toni Waskevich was a mother of four. She loved her family more than anything. She was traveling back from Grand Rapids with her best friend and sister, Barbara Reder, their sister in law, Toni's son, Joe, and his girlfriend, Shelly Berger. They got into a crash and everyone but Joe was killed. Another family, the McKelvey's also lost their mother. Trish (Pat) died of cancer. The two families never knew each other but found one another after the deaths and have opened a home for the terminally ill in Midland. This story touched my soul and my heart. I think about both families every day. I pray for them.

If you didn't get a chance to see the story---here it is---I'm sure you'll be moved by their love.

Family Turns Tragedy Into Cause

Okay Ladies--I've got a secret and I'm telling you:)

Shapers, the salon & day spa, is having their open house November 20th.

So, what's the big deal?

Well, the salon is celebrating it's 20th year in business and you will be able to get 20 percent off on products-- Oh, but that's not all--here's the best part.

Right now, Shaper's is being remodeled to open an Aveda lifestyle store in the salon. Right now, you would have to travel to Lansing or Somerset to visit a store like this one.

Trust me, it's a big deal.

The Grand Opening of the store is the same day of the open house, November 20th--

I will be there--can't wait to see it all.

Hope you take the time to stop by and see it all for yourself--

Peace--Katie

Okay---

I emcee a lot of events in mid-Michigan. A lot.

I believe that's one way I can give back to a community that has been so kind to my family and me.

I want to tell you about an event some of you may not know about but definitely should. I hope you can join me Thursday October 23rd at S.V.S.U's Curtiss Hall.

Last year I was asked to emcee the Maier & Associates "Just for Kids" Charitable Foundation" dinner. I was blown away!

This foundation gives back to our community like no other I've witnessed, and the night, I promise, will touch your heart.

The man who founded "Just for Kids" is Wayne Maier. I know Wayne wouldn't take full credit for the amazing night because he does get a lot ofhelp from his family and friends, but it is Wayne's vision that makes so many children smile in mid-Michigan every year.

This man has provided for kids all over mid-Michigan--not just Bay City. He has given back to kids on the East Side of Saginaw and others in Midland county. Trust me, he is incredible.

On October 23rd, the foundation is having their big fund raiser dinner and you may have heard Johnny Burke talking about the drawing for a 2008 Corvette. This is the event where you can drive away in that corvette. They are still selling tickets for a hundred bucks a pop. Last year, I picked the winner--will I pick you this year?

Okay--Here's the skinny--

cocktails are at 5:30---6 p-m entertainment by Danscene and presentation of the Just for Kids program

7 pm dinner and 7:30 begins the entertainment by Paul & Storm.

So--how much are tickets?

They are taking donations of $50 a person.

Trust me--it's well worth it.

I would love to see you there. My husband and I will both be there. You absolutely have to meet Wayne Maier--truly one of the most decent persons I've ever met. Hope to see you October 23rd at S.V.S.U

I'm not going to talk politics, I want to chat a little bit about being a working mom. For the past few weeks, we've all seen how Sarah Palin has been treated in the media.

Again, I'm not talking politics.

I just want to talk about the cheap shots thrown at her for being a working mother of five and having a son with downs syndrome. I can't tell you how impressed I am with her ability to juggle all that and campaign. Now, I'm sure she's getting help. Most women (and men) do have a little help. I admire her ability to have these children and "do it all." I just loved watching her on stage with her family after her convention speech. It was so picture perfect for me to see her hold that baby after talking to millions of people. I just loved it!

Again, whatever your politics, it's nice to see a working mom in the spotlight. It gives new perspective and light on the times in which we live. This is a way of life for so many families. I'm glad I'm able to witness all this unfold. Again, I'm not talking politics

I had such a great time on my vacation. I took my girls, Joe-Joe and their friend to Mackinac Island last week. We had such a great time. It was so beautiful! The weather was perfect and it wasn't too crowded. The last time I was on the Island, I was three months pregnant with Mackenzie. Now, she's riding her own bike around the Island. We ate all the fudge and ice cream we wanted. It was great!

When I first started out in this business, I lived in Mackinaw City, so I know that part of the area pretty well. Instead of taking the ferry over from Mackinaw City, we drove across the Big Mac and took it from St. Ignace. Joe Joe loved the boat ride.

Just wanted to share--hope you can make it up there soon--I know the fall colors will be great this year:)

I had the incredible, once in a lifetime opportunity to attend the Detroit Red Wings game five of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Oh my! What a game! Joe Louis Arena literally moved when the wings scored that third goal--putting them ahead of the penguins. I felt so many emotions that night. I think everybody was just ready for the Wings to hoist that Cup again--and then that awful thing happened. That thing no one was expecting--the Penguins scored a goal and tied it up WITH 34 SECONDS LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good grief! The place got quiet. It was like that did NOT just happen. Pinch me, I had a terrible nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then, after the first overtime, I thought--they'll do it in the second overtime. By the way, the whole time I was praying. You know the song "Jesus Take The Wheel?" Well, I was singing "Jesus Take the Puck." Apparently, someone from the Penguins was praying harder than me.:)

That's okay, the third period proved those young boys from Pittsburgh want that Cup just as badly. It will be interesting to see if this goes to game seven.

Stay tuned!

My daughters and I just returned from Europe last week. We went to Paris and Lourdes France and to Belgium. It was a blast!

My sister has been in Belgium for a few years and we thought this would be the perfect time for us to head out there to see the sights. Wow! My girls are 8 and 10. They had an absolute blast! Maddie went all the up to the top of the Eiffel tower. I must say I was a bit less determined. Kenzie stayed back with mama, knowing the thought made my stomach turn. We saw the tomb of Napoleon, Notre Dame, The Miraculous Medal church, The Louvre and much more.

I must admit, I loved just sitting at a street cafe with my sissy and our daughters watching people. Of course the girls couldn't get over the crepes. How cool they put nutella and ice cream on their pancakes mom. Can we have this for breakfast? Great!

So, what about Belgium? We pretty much stayed around Waterloo and ate chocolate. It was great! We went shopping a few days but we were tired so we limited our sights after Paris and Lourdes.

Anyway--just wanted to update you on something--I'll try and provide pictures in the next few weeks--

Wally Bronner is a very special person.

In the 12 years that I have been working at TV-5, Wally has been a big part of this community. He has given so much back and I truly believe it's because of his faith and love for God. You talk about walking the walk. Wally Bronner is a professed Christian. He loves the Lord with all his heart.

When most of us heard he had cancer, of course there was concern and prayer right away. But, after talking with family and friends, I know Wally is ready.

In fact, I think he's a bit anxious to see the face of God.

Kinda like the song "I can only imagine." This is what Wally has lived his life for.

He has been a faithful servant to God and the blessings throughout his life are still abundant. In work and at home, Wally has lived quite an incredible life. His love and energy has always amazed me. I'm so grateful to God I am able to say I know the spirit of Wally Bronner. He is made of truth and a kindness that can only come from God. I want to thank Wally for always walking the walk and giving real meaning to the phrase "love thy neighbor."

God bless the Bronner family in all you do and please know you are all in our prayers--

I'm sure some of you have heard of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

I recently received an e-mail from a friend of mine who is working on the "Pistons Cares Telethon benefiting Make-A-Wish." The Detroit Pistons are trying to help raise money to make wishes come true for 50 children with life threatening medical conditions. Each wish has an average cost of $8,000.

Most of the money raised for these children will be from a telethon taking place next Friday--march 14th during the Pistons game against the San Antonio Spurs.

I think this cause is great for children who are already struggling. If you would like to make a wish come true, please send what you can to my friend Jeff Corey. Here's all the info you need--

I can't believe how time has flown by. Do you remember when I was doing that make-over for Joe Joe's room?

You are not going to believe this, but that was three years ago. My little boy will turn three on the 26th. I can't believe how time flies. So much has happened since then, but I still feel like it was just yesterday

And, let me tell you, boys are so much different than girls. Some people debate nature/nurture. It's all nature. Joe-Joe came out playing with tractors and trucks. I'm not kidding, we go to construction sites for entertainment. I really do enjoy the differences. There's something very special about little boys and their mommies.

He's a mommies boy and I'm just eating it up. I'll let you know how his birthday party goes. He wants more trains. I'm thinking a real ride on the Polar Express:)

I have to brag about an event I feel so fortunate to have emceed the past few years.

It's the Go Red For Women Luncheon. Ladies (and Gents) I'm telling you, this is a must. If there is anything you do for yourself, do this. Please buy a ticket to this event. You will NOT be disappointed. It's like a day at the spa, but even more fun because you are sharing it with some many other women, of all ages.

Here's all the info. you need.

It's The 4th Annual Go Red For Women Luncheon in the Tri-Cities.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Apple Mountain in Freeland.

You will hear from local health professionals. They have health screenings, a fashion show (you'll see BLONDIE from WHNN modeling), a heart healthy gourmet luncheon, silent auction and this year's keynote speaker is Dr. Marie Savard (She's been on Oprah, The Today Show & The Early Show).

Cardiovascular disease kills one woman every minute. We need to educate and change that stat. This luncheon will empower you with the knowledge to help change your friends/families lifestyles.

I'm not kidding ladies--this event is one of my most favorite. It's a great treat, a time when we can just get away for a bit. How about buying a ticket as a gift? You won't be sorry--it's such a great time!

For more info. on how you can purchase a ticket--Call Denise Henris-- 989-781-5483 or denise.henris@heart.org

It's 2008. Wow! So, have you made a new year's resolution? After making them and breaking them, I've just decided to not make them.

But, I must confess, I do think about my life differently when I begin a new year. I try and become a better person. We live and we learn, right? I enjoy looking at what I may or may not have done in 2007 and make it better in 2008.

I hope if you make resolutions--you keep yours--

Good luck and we'll chat soon.
