Sam Merrill - WNEM TV 5

Sam Merrill

Sam Merrill is a familiar face and veteran journalist who brings 17 years of experience to the TV5 anchor desk.

From 1990 to 1999, he was an anchor and reporter at TV5. In 1999, he returned to his boyhood home of Pittsburgh to anchor "Action News This Morning" for WTAE-TV. That program was twice nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy Award, and won the award for "Best Morning News" in 1999.

But he missed Mid-Michigan, TV5 in particular, and returned in 2002 to anchor TV5 News at 5, 5:30, 6 and 11 p.m.

Sam is very active in the community, serving on the Board of Trustees of the Bridge Center for Racial Harmony, and the Saginaw County Chapter of the American Red Cross. He has also served on the boards of The Disability Network, the Genesee Food Bank, and the Central Michigan University Alumni Advisory Board.

In his spare time, Sam loves reading; particularly books about politics and history. He enjoys golf, tennis and is an avid runner who has competed in several local races.
