Katie O'Mara

Katie O'Mara is the host of Better Mid-Michigan and co-anchor of TV5 News at 5, 5:30, 6 p.m.

She joined the WNEM TV5 news team in 1996 and calls mid-Michigan home. Katie has anchored breaking news coverage for major events including the tragic shooting death of first grader Kayla Rolland and the quick moving fire and deadly explosion that leveled The Clara Barton Nursing Home. She is also an Emmy award winning reporter. Katie won an Emmy for her poignant depiction of Rose Michelle Joseph, a Haitian infant whose life was saved by a mid-Michigan missionary. Katie has also received several A.P. and M.A.B honors.

Before joining WNEM, Katie anchored the morning and noon newscasts at KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City, OK. During her time at KFOR-TV, Katie anchored several breaking news stories on the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building.

Katie has also worked as a morning anchor and reporter at WWTV in Cadillac, Michigan and at WPBN-TV in Traverse City, Michigan.

Katie is actively involved with many charitable organizations. She serves as a board member for the "Just for Kids" foundation. It's an organization that gives back to children in the tri-county area. Katie also volunteers her time with "The Toni & Trish House." It's a true charity for the terminally ill in mid-Michigan. Katie loves all children and volunteers her time with the Saginaw County Child Abuse & Neglect Council, Special Olympics, MDA, The Saginaw Community Foundation and The Turn-Around Achievement awards.

Katie has emceed hundreds of events all over mid-Michigan. She has co-emceed events with former New York mayor, Rudy Giuliani, General Colin Powell, James Carville and Mary Matalin. Katie was even asked to host The Great Lakes Loons home opener with Tommy Lasorda.

Katie and her husband have four children and are grateful and happy to be a part of the mid-Michigan community.
