Follow-Up: Midland Couple's Adoption Dilemma 6-07-2010

The ball is now rolling and hammers are swinging in an effort to help a Midland couple gain custody of their three grandchildren.
Last week, WNEM TV5 reported on the couple’s plight as they were told by the state of Florida they had to add on to their home before they could adopt the children.
Time and money is running out for Dan and Mary Spegel, who have a hole in their yard, and one in their hearts.
After TV5’s story aired, the station was flooded with phone calls from contractors, and now a local plumber was able to get wholesaler R.A. Townsend to donate a toilet, sink, tub, shower and fixtures by Kohler.

The couple said they still need a vanity and countertop, but after last week’s dry walling contractor’s offer to help finish the project, they’re getting closer to their goal.
The family has until June 29 to finish the work or their grandchildren could be adopted by someone else.
Anyone wishing to make a cash or check donation can do so by calling 989-837-9757 or making them payable to Caregiving Network, and mailing them to 607 Gordon Street, Midland, Mich. 48640. All donations are tax deductible.
Officials said "Spegel Adoption" must be designated on all donations to the Caregiving Network.
