Child's Bravery Honored After Finding Father Dead 6-09-2010

Members of law enforcement in Mount Morris Township honored a local boy Wednesday morning.
Officers presented Tyler O’Conner, 8, with an award for bravery for his actions on Nov. 13, 2009.
That was the day Tyler’s father, Nohl, was gunned down during a home invasion.
"When I heard the two gunshots, I walked in the house and I just saw him laying there,” said Tyler. “I didn't know what happened to him."
Police said the young boy called 911 after finding his father had been brutally shot. School officials said Tyler has continued to be a model student despite the tragedy.
"He always told me to call 911 if anything happens," said Tyler.
The ceremony was held at 10 a.m. at McMonagle Elementary Library.
"To do something like this for him, especially on this day, I know made his world, because his dad was his best friend," said Tyler’s mom, Cassie Baker.
After being presented with the award, Tyler shared some of his memories of him and his father.
"I used to play football with him,” said Tyler. “He took me up to his football field and we played catch and the one thing I liked about having fun with him -- going snowmobile riding through the trails."
