Late Frost Damages Apple, Blueberry Crops 6-09-2010

The late frost last month may have devastated the apple crop in Michigan.
Some orchards are reporting they’ve lost about 70 percent of their crop, and Michigan State University Extension said it’s the worst year many have seen in decades.
“It’s just a game, you've gotta ride out,” said David Hackert, with Hackert Family Farms. “You can't correct Mother Nature. She takes what she wants, we just live with it.”
Some orchards are already expecting to have to lay off more than half of their staff because of the bad crop.
Besides apples, blueberry crops across the state also took a hit, TV5 has learned.
