B.V. District Looks To Turn High School Around 6-11-2010

The Buena Vista School District has approved a plan that could replace the Buena Vista High School principal.
The district has come under fire after the state issued an ultimatum to improve performance.
Last year, the state reported that B.V. High was one of the lowest performing schools in the state.
The new plan was adopted by the school district’s board after the school failed to meet academic standards for five years in a row.
Also called for in the plan is the removal of teachers who have not increased student achievement, and rewards for those that do.
The board said it will work to recruit and retain staff to help meet higher education levels.
The district now has until Sept. 1 to put its plan into effect.
School officials told WNEM TV5 it will most likely take two to three years for them to achieve their goals.
