YPSILANTI, Mich.Eastern Michigan University is opening a $3.9 million multipurpose indoor sports practice facility for its teams and the community.
Officials are holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house Tuesday at the air-supported structure at the northeast corner of the Eagles' football venue, Rynearson Stadium.
The facility has a 1,000-square foot welcome center and 86,000 square feet of convertible space usable as a football field, international soccer field or four youth soccer fields.
The structure is 410 feet long, 210 feet wide and 75 feet tall.
The Ypsilanti school's regents approved the project last year. It was paid for with capital reserves and part of the 2005 tuition increase.
Leasing revenues are expected to cover maintenance and operating costs.
