Dow Obtains Millions For Energy-Efficient Projects 6-18-2010

Four Michigan companies will receive more than $6.6 million in federal funding to develop advanced energy-efficient technology.
Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding Thursday.
Midland-based Dow Chemical Co. and the Dow Corning Corp. will receive more than $2.9 million and $1.24 million respectively.
Dow Chemical will develop high performing insulation with an R-value of 7.5 per inch or more.
Dow Corning will develop an improved form of insulated cladding material for exterior insulation and finish systems for commercial buildings.
Officials said the insulation project is focused on achieving thermal resistance values of R-40 or greater for exterior insulation and finish systems, which would make building facades as many as eight times more energy efficient.
Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool Corp. will receive more than $2 million to increase the energy efficiency of refrigerators.
West Olive-based Pleotint LLC will receive $402,547 to test variably tinted thermochromic windows.
