Flags To Be Lowered Monday For Local Soldier 6-24-2010

Gov. Jennifer Granholm has ordered U.S. flags in Michigan lowered Monday in honor of Army Spc. Joseph D. Johnson, who was killed during fighting in Afghanistan.
The 24-year-old from Genesee County's Mundy Township and another soldier were killed when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device June 16 in Kunduz.
Johnson was part of a unit from Fort Brag, N.C.
Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes - Miller Road Chapel.
His funeral is Saturday at Central Church of the Nazarene in Flint. Burial will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery near Holly.
Johnson was born in Flint and graduated from Carman-Ainsworth High School in 2004.
He enlisted in the Army in 2006 and went to Afghanistan in December.
