Agreement Reached Before Union Rally At CMU 6-29-2010

The union seeking to represent non-tenure track faculty at Central Michigan University has called off a sit-in to protest what it called delays in holding a unionization vote.
The American Federation of Teachers and the university administration have agreed to a list of exempt faculty.
Both sides will request the Michigan Employment Relations Commission select a date for the vote. The vote also will determine who will represent the faculty members.
The union's canceled rally on Wednesday morning was to include a march to the Mount Pleasant university's administration building. Members also planned to picket at the homes and businesses of university board members.
The agreement between the two groups was reached around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
