Flint's Hurley Medical Center Lays Off 24 LPNs 6-30-2010

WNEM TV5 has learned Hurley Medical Center in Flint has laid off 24 licensed practical nurses.
The hospital said the layoffs are the result of economic constraints.
Thirty-one LPNs worked at Hurley and only seven are being kept.
Right now, Hurley’s CEO has not issued a statement on the layoffs.
A representative for the laid-off nurses asked if money was so tight, why was the hospital building a new pediatric emergency room and considering the hiring of several K-9 units for a security patrol.
Uthe union representing the nurses tells TV5 it is still hoping to work out a deal with management.
Count on WNEM.com and TV5 as more information on the situation comes into the newsroom.
