Afternoon Home Invasion Turns Deadly In Flint 7-07-2010

A man recovering from hip surgery was the victim of a home invasion and robbery Wednesday afternoon.
Flint police said they caught the two burglars in the act as they exited the back of an apartment building while carrying stolen goods.
Officers said they were easily identifiable because they still had their ski masks on.
Police said the men broke into the third floor apartment at Court and Grand Traverse streets in Flint just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
"It appears that the homeowner was home at the time of the robbery and had been shot multiple times,” said Lt. T.P. Johnson, with the Flint Police Department.
Officers said they found the victim, Steven Rainier Hood, dead when they arrived at the scene.
A woman claiming to be the Hood's caseworker arrived on scene shortly after the shooting saying the man's wife had called her in a panic.
"His wife called me approximately 10-15 minutes ago crying, saying the building was roped off and she didn't know what happened,” said Tia Douglas, with Consumer Services.
Douglas said the Hood's wife lives in the same building, but in a separate apartment.
Douglas said she's been seeing her 56-year-old client for the past four years. She was coming to check up on him after the hip surgery he had on Monday.
Douglas said Hood would regularly complained about crime in the apartment building.
Police said they recovered both the getaway vehicle and the gun that one of the suspects allegedly used in the crime.
