When Will Restored Andersen Water Park Open? 7-08-2010

When will the new-look Andersen Water Park open?
That’s the question Saginaw residents have been asking as a five-day heat wave pushed Michigan temperatures into the mid-90s.
City officials expected to reopen the 4-acre park on June 30, but Saginaw City Manager Darnell Earley decided to keep it closed so newly planted sod could properly grow. The decision has not sat well with water park enthusiasts and people just looking to get a break from the heat.

The Saginaw City Council is expected to assess the situation again on Thursday and may make a decision on when the $1.58 million water park will open.
The original Andersen Park used to attract more than $60,000 visitors a year when a massive water slide was in operation.
The city closed Andersen Water Park in 2002 stating it was too expensive to run and maintain. In 2008, the water slide was removed and sold on eBay to a lakeside campground in Missouri for $27,000.
The new park will feature a splash pad, skateboard park, playscape, picnic area and a lakeside boardwalk and free admission.
When Andersen Water Park opened in 1988, it cost $3.3 million to build.
