2 Saginaw Township Hotels Headed For Auction 7-08-2010

Two Saginaw Township hotels that owe millions of dollars in mortgage loans are headed for the auction block.
The 156-room Four Points Hotel Saginaw the 84-room Holiday Inn Express will be sold later this month.
WNEM TV’s Craig McMorris spoke to another local hotel owner who thinks the availability room in Saginaw County is partially to blame.
"As far as I'm thinking there are too many rooms for this area," said Super 8 owner Andy Patel. "Our business has gone down significantly in the last couple of years."
Patel bought the 58-room hotel in Saginaw Township about nine months age. He remodeled it and changed it from an Econolodge into a Super 8.
Patel also believes the ongoing road projects and detours on Interstate 675 are affecting his industry's business.
In light of that, he tries to attract customers by providing a free breakfast and better service than the other guys.
"We try go give you better rooms, keep it clean and check everything," Patel said. "If somebody has a problem we try to solve it as soon as possible."
Patel said he hopes that if the economy improves more travelers will patronize these Saginaw-area hotels. But, he also gave a dire prediction that he fears may become reality.
"There might be some hotels that will go out of business. We are in surviving mode right now," he said.
The Four Points opened its doors in 1981, and The Holiday Inn Express opened in 2001. Both are slated to be sold during a July 23 auction.
