Bay City Approves New Contract With Firefighters 7-13-2010

The Bay City Commission unanimously approved the firefighter’s union contract during a closed session Monday night.
The union agreed to an 8.7 percent labor reduction -- which was a major hurdle between the city and the union. In return for the new firefighter’s contract, the city agreed not to layoff anyone in the department for the next three years.
The union approved the contract earlier this month.
Kurt Wagner, president Local 116, said that four recently laid off firefighters will also return to work by early August.
The city had asked all eight of its unions, and nonunion employees, to make 10.8 percent in labor cuts to help with a $1.66 million budget deficit for 2010-2011 fiscal year, which began July 1.
City Manager Robert Belleman told TV5 contracts with three other unions should be in place by August.
