GM-Flint Cancels Both Friday Assembly Shifts 7-15-2010

The General Motors Flint Truck Assembly Plant canceled its overtime shifts Friday due to a parts shortage.
Ken Mohre, assistant plant manager at Flint Assembly, said the cancellation is due to hurricane Alex, which struck the Gulf of Mexico last week.
Officials said the hurricane prevented suppliers from shipping parts up north.
GM is the fourth automaker impacted by the severe weather -- Chrysler, Ford and Nissan have also incurred work stoppages this month.
The Flint plant is scheduled to begin building regular and crew cab versions of the Chevrolet Silverado on Monday, as well as its heavy-duty production.
Officials at the facility said it would provide updates via the employee hotline at 877-473-5468. Anyone needed to work will be notified by a group leader.
On Sunday management will evaluate the availability of parts and make their final decision about whether or not to resume work on Monday.
The plant opened in 1947 and currently has 2,043 employees.
