Nexteer's New Owners Tour Facility, Calm Fears 7-15-2010

The new owners of Nexteer Automotive toured the Saginaw County facility this week and brought with them good news about jobs and the future of the plant.
Pacific Century Motors, an automotive affiliate of the Beijing government, confirmed reports that not only would jobs be staying in Mid-Michigan, but that more work is on the way.
Metaphorically, a new day has dawned at the Buena Vista Township plant as a new business plan was revealed to managers and workers.
The exchange of information comes as Nexteer’s new China-based owners visited the plant.
When news of the facility’s sale to a Chinese group broke two weeks ago, it raised fears that the steering system giant, Saginaw County’s second-largest employer, would be broken up and moved.
But according to Nexteer Automotive president Robert Remenar, that’s not going to happen.
In a meeting this week with officials from PCM, Remenar was told by the Chinese delegation that Nexteer's current management team will remain in place, that Nexteer's world headquarters will remain in Buena Vista, and that the United Auto Workers’ new five-year work agreement will be honored.
Nexteer officials said with a new labor and a competitive wage agreement, more new work could be coming to the plant.
For now, managers assure TV5 it will be business as usual at the plant for the foreseeable future.
