Child Killed In Flint Township Apartment Fire ID'd 7-20-2010

A 5-year-old boy was killed in a Flint Township apartment fire early Tuesday morning.
That boy has been identified as Kadric Johnson and neighbors say he and his family had just recently moved into the apartment.
Firefighters were called to the Sunridge Apartment complex, 3348 Flushing Road, just before 1 a.m.
When they arrived they found one apartment building fully involved in flames.
Fire Chief John Ringwelski said Tuesday attempts to rescue the boy were hampered by the intensity of the fire, the collapse of part of the unit and broken gas lines. He said brick walls had started to fall.
Witnesses said several people jumped from the building to escape the fire in the township that neighbors Flint.
George Kozan, the complex manager, said that five people lived in the unit where the victim died. He also said five smoke detectors in the unit were recently inspected.
No other injuries were reported.
Six of the 14 apartments were destroyed. Two more were damaged.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The Flint Township Fire Department was assisted by five other fire departments.
