Unlicensed Driver Injured After Hitting Backhoe 7-20-2010

A 15-year-old had to be extricated from a vehicle after police said he drove into a backhoe Monday night.
The incident happened in northern Bay County’s Gibson Township around 10 p.m.
Michigan State police said the unlicensed driver was traveling on Flajole Road when he collided with the end loader that was crossing the road from a private driveway.
The impact flipped the backhoe onto its side and caused the vehicle to burst into flames.
The teen was taken to Bay Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.
The 52-year-old driver of the backhoe was treated and released at the scene.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, but it appears the teen driver was intoxicated.
