Neighbors React To Fatal Flint Township Fire 7-20-2010

A fatal Flint Township apartment fire claimed the life of a 5-year-old boy and now neighbors of the family are sounding off on the situation.
WNEM TV5's Craig McMorris talked with a woman who managed to escape the flames and said she may have prevented another death.
"She was trying to get back in to her baby but I couldn't see myself letting her get back in there,” said Margot Morris, of Flint Township.
Morris said she had to stop her neighbor from going back into the inferno to save her child. "Because I knew she had two other small children and I just didn't think that child inside that house was living, so I held her back from going in there,” she said.
Smoldering ruins are all that's left of a multi-unit apartment building at the Sunridge Apartment complex where Morris lived with her two children.
They managed to get out safely when the fire broke out early Tuesday morning.
Morris said she was asleep when she was awakened by her children. She said she didn't get much rest after being told by firefighters to leave her place. "[I was] trying to get in there to see if there's anything I could salvage,” said Morris. “And there was not, [once] they finally let me in. There’s nothing there to be saved."
Morris said she does not have renters insurance and she’s not sure exactly what her next move will be. "I’m sure I’ll find somebody to stay with, for the moment, anyway," Morris said.
