Bay City's Annual 3-Day Sidewalk Sale Kicks Off 7-22-2010

The annual downtown sidewalk sale has kicked off in downtown Bay City, with Thursday marking the first day of the three-day annual event.
Attending shoppers are searching for good deals while business owners are hoping for big bucks.
Jeff Ward has operated his pottery and art shop for several years in downtown Bay City.
The annual Sidewalk Sales Days are important to his business. "Sidewalk Days specifically is geared towards us being able to moving out some extra inventory and give our customers a sales price or clearance price that tends to bring out a lot of people," said Ward.
Sidewalk Days is more than just sales; there is also music in the street, giveaways and restaurant specials.
Now that the Tall Ships Celebration is over, merchants said they hope they'll be able to keep attracting people to the downtown area with their sales.
"Our shops and our restaurants are mostly one-of-a-kind in downtown Bay City," said Candace Bales, executive director of Bay City’s Downtown Management Board and Development Authority.
Some shoppers TV5 ran into said they love coming to the sale every year. "Come on down, I tell you what, this is the best deals of the year right now," said shopper Marty Smentczak.
"I like to come to them; [there’s] a lot of interesting things to see down here," said Tammy Smentczak
Meanwhile, Ward hopes droves of shoppers will have that same attitude this weekend.
