'Lefties' Gather In Saginaw To Build Habitat Home 7-22-2010

Dozens of left-handers united Thursday for a good cause in Saginaw.
It was the launch of Habitat for Humanity’s first-ever Lefthanders Build.
Starting Aug. 6, about 200 volunteers will construct Habitat’s first house built almost entirely by “lefties.”
“I’m hoping we’ll get a lot of left-handers out here to help us,” said Pastor David Birnbaum, with the Grace Lutheran Church. “We’re not excluding right-handers, however, come on out here and us left-handers will teach you the right way to build a house!”
When it’s completed, the residence will be home to a single mom and her children.
The event not only helps a family, but it is also meant to raise awareness for left-handed builders who normally have to work with right-handed tools.
TV5 anchor Sam Merrill will be one of the celebrity left-handers helping out with the build, which runs through the 27th.
Saginaw Habitat for Humanity said it has built or renovated 156 houses since its founding in 1987.
