Museum's Mobile Classroom Awarded $10K Grant 7-26-2010

The Castle Museum of Saginaw County History has received a $10,000 grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services to help support its newest initiative for Saginaw County school children, History on the Move.
History on the Move is a mobile classroom and museum.
The Castle Museum was one of only 12 museums in Michigan to receive this grant through the IMLS and its Museums for America program.
“We are thrilled to have been selected,” said Ken Santa, executive director of the Castle Museum. “This money will help ensure that History on the Move can visit all of the schools in Saginaw County so we can teach our children about the vibrant culture and history of their community.”
The Historical Society of Saginaw County is telling the story of the people of the Saginaw region through exploration, preservation, and presentation of their historical and cultural heritage, according to Santa.
Museums for America is the Institute’s largest grant program for museums, providing more than $19 million in grants to support the role of museums in American society to sustain cultural heritage, to support lifelong learning.
Museums for America grants help a museum’s ability to serve the public more effectively by supporting high-priority activities that advance the institution’s mission.
