Bay City Commission OKs Sewer Rate Increase 7-27-2010

Bay City residents will see an increase in their sewer bills after Aug. 1.
The Bay City Commission approved an 11 percent increase in sewer rates for all customers on Monday.
City officials said an average household of four will see their bill increase by about $14 a month. Customers will now pay $9.85 per 100 cubic feet used -- up from $7.97.
The city's sewer department has taken a nearly $2 million hit in revenue -- with the loss of Hampton Township as a sewer customer.
In June, the township announced it would leave the Bay City water treatment system and join with Bay County to create their own $30 million plant.
Township officials said residents could no longer afford Bay City's high rates.
