FlintÂ?s Art, Cultural Programming Gets $3M Boost 7-27-2010

The Flint Cultural Center received a grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation totaling more than $3.2 million on Tuesday.
The one-year, general operating grant include $1.35 million to the Flint Cultural Center Corporation, supporting Longway Planetarium, Sloan Museum and The Whiting.
Another $1.25 million will be given to the Flint Institute of Arts and $650,000 will go towards the Flint Institute of Music.
William White, president and CEO of the Mott Foundation, said the arts help spur economic development and address social and educational issues.
"Mott’s funding for the various institutions that make up the Flint Cultural Center is part of a larger effort to support Flint’s assets as the city continues to pursue its promise as a healthy, vital place to live and do business,” he said.
