Churches Hold 'Stop The Violence' Food Giveaway 7-29-2010

In an effort to help stop the violence, the community is coming together to host a food giveaway event, organized by two churches.
And a Saginaw mother whose son was killed in a drive by shooting 7-years ago is honoring her son by helping others.
Ineka Henderson said God has sent her on a very special mission.
“He was shot right over there by the pole,” said Henderson, pointing out the exact location of her son’s slaying to TV5’s Jay Brandow.
Henderson said she is able to cope with her son’s murder by extending a helping hand.
“We're giving out bags of food because food is love, and these people need help and love,” said Henderson.
Event organizers said the giveaway draws between 400 and 500 people every year.
Henderson said her son was not the only victim when he was killed and that she communicates and comforts the man who pointed the gun at her son and pulled the trigger.
“I’ve forgiven him, I talk to him and I listen to him,” said Henderson. “He just got caught up in some bad stuff.”
Because of Henderson’s mission, hundreds of families will benefit Thursday during a food giveaway.
“There's all kinds of food canned goods, bread -- it will all go to a good cause to help feed hungry people,” said Harvest assistant Kelly Hernandez.
Henderson said last year they handed out 325 bags of food and hopes to do even better this year.
The giveaway ran until 3 p.m. at the corner of E. Genesee and Howard.
