Voters In Saginaw Approve Public Safety Tax 8-03-2010

Two tax proposals were passed by Saginaw residents Tuesday night.
Voters approved renewing the $6 million public safety tax first approved in May 2006 and a 1.5-mill increase over the same span.
The renewal won by a 5,294 to 1,590 vote. The additional levy won with a 4,361 to 2,122 vote.
If only the renewal would have passed, the city would have cut 15 officers from its police and fire departments. If both proposals failed, then about 32 police and 20 firefighters jobs would have been axed.
The average homeowner will reportedly pay about $350 more a year in taxes.
