Bay City Hosts 18th Annual Labadie Pig Gig 8-05-2010

Four days of great food and fun has begun in Bay City.
The 18th annual Labadie Pig Gig presented by State Farm opened Thursday and runs through Sunday.
Rib chefs from around the world are in town and will be competing for top honors and bragging rights as to who has the best ribs.
Awesome Aussie rib chef Chuck Hern said he's ready for the rib competition and the crowds.
“I’ve had this pork cook low and slow all night long and it’s just falling apart,” said Hern. “That's when you know you have some awesome pork that's sure to be a crowd pleaser.”
The rib experts will rely on the crowd to decide who has the best of the best BBQ.
Newcomer Jimmy "Rack 'Em" Bates said he designed and built his own smoker. He calls it the Secret Weapon. “Not only does it cook on wood, the hot air is re-circulated and I even add apple juice, but I won't tell you when or how much,” said Bates with a laugh.
Pigging out on pork is more than just a lot of fun; the event also raises much needed funds for numerous charities.
“There are so many people who need help right now, and every year we're able to give money to more than a dozen charities in our community,” said event promoter Wendy Dore.
For anyone looking to get all sauced up this weekend, Bay City is the place to be.
On Friday, TV5’s own Adrienne Broaddus and Carrie Sharp will be competing with other celebrity chefs for the top honors. So go check out those ribs and vote for TV5!
On Saturday it's more food and fun with 2006 American Idol winner Taylor Hicks performing shortly after 7 p.m. Events wrap up Sunday evening after a day of food and activities.
