Ex-Standish Max Workers Not Guaranteed Jobs 8-06-2010

Former workers at Standish Max Prison could face a tough reality.
Officials stated hundreds of displaced workers will not be guaranteed their jobs back if the prison reopens.
Officials said anyone hoping to be hired at the facility would have to go through the federal employment process.
Federal prison officials will tour the facility later Aug. 16.
If they like what they see, the prison could be converted to a federal overflow facility.
Corrections officials said hiring back employees could be part of sale negotiations.
Federal Bureau of Prisons officials have visited the facility previously.
State budget cuts forced Standish prison to close last fall. Its capacity was 604 inmates.
The prison had been considered to hold 229 suspected al-Qaida, Taliban and foreign fighters jailed at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba.
State prison officials said that's no longer the plan.
