Pipeline Firm Buying 2 Homes Near Oil Spill 8-09-2010

DETROITA company whose pipeline ruptured and dumped hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil into southern Michigan waterways is finalizing the purchase of two homes in the area.
Enbridge Inc. Chief Executive Patrick Daniel said Sunday the Canadian company is days away from buying the Calhoun County homes.
The company recently offered to buy up to 200 homes in the 30-mile-long zone to assure homeowners and keep speculators out.
Enbridge reported the spill July 26. The EPA has said more than 1 million gallons of oil have flowed into the Kalamazoo River and other waterways.
The company estimates it's 820,000 gallons.
The oil has been contained and is being removed. The cause of the rupture is under investigation.
The pipeline runs between Griffith, Ind., and Sarnia, Ontario.
