Flint Police Say 16th Stabbing Victim Reported 8-09-2010

Authorities said a knife-wielding serial killer is now responsible for 16 Flint-area assaults, including five slayings.
Michigan State police and local investigators said they're looking for a white man responsible for the attacks from May 24 to Aug. 2.
They previously believed there were 13 assaults, but additional stabbing victims have come forward and alerted investigators.
On Monday night, the most recent victim to come forward -- a 26-year-old black male -- told police that he was assaulted on Tuesday, July 27.

Police said the victim was stabbed repeatedly while walking alone on Pierson Road near Flemming Road, on the city's northwest side.
The suspect is in his late 20s to early 30s, 5-foot-11 to 6-foot-2, and 180 to 210 pounds. He has been linked to a dark green GMC Jimmy or Chevy S-10 Blazer with tan trim, with a model year ranging from 1995 to about 2000.
Additionally, he has a large metal rod-type piercing in the upper left ear.
Survivors said the attacker has mostly approached black men seeking directions or help with a vehicle.
Right now law enforcement officials have assigned 14 investigators to the case.
Flint law enforcement officers are talking with authorities in Leesburg, Va., about similarities between attacks in the two communities.
At a news conference Monday, Leesburg Chief of Police Joseph R. Price said he is confident, though not certain, that the same man is responsible not only for the two stabbings and a hammer attack in his town in the last week as well as the Michigan murders.
The Leesburg victims were two African-American men and a Latino teen with a dark complexion.
In Michigan, all but two of the 16 victims were black.

Police in Toledo, Ohio, were also investigating whether a stabbing Saturday that critically injured a church janitor, a black man, could be linked to the serial stabber.
Police said the custodian was stabbed when a man asked him for directions on Saturday. That man is recovering following surgery.
Toledo authorities released a statement that described a nearly identical killer and vehicle in the case.
Meanwhile, Flint Mayor Dayne Walling is urging local residents to watch out for each other and to remain vigilant.
"You have somebody in your life who is vulnerable, look out for them," he said.
Michigan State Police are leading a task force investigating the attacks.
Citizens are asked to contact the Michigan State Police Flint Post at 866-246-9500 with any information on the case.
