New SVSU Freshmen Move In, Begin Transition 8-27-2010

Another freshman class began arriving at Saginaw Valley State University Friday.
Incoming students are moving into the residence halls that they will call home for the 2010-11 academic year.
SVSU officials said in all, around 2,700 students will live on campus this year -- about 70 percent of incoming freshman. To put that into perspective, only 645 students called SVSU home in 1998 before Living Center North opened the following year.
This summer, Living Center North received a $500,000 face-lift to replace carpeting, flooring and paint throughout the building.
Last year, SVSU saw a record freshman class and officials said they expect to match those numbers this year.
The total enrollment of 10,498 students last year was also an all-time high.
Classes begin Monday.
