Dispute Continues; Possible Kroger Strike Looms 8-30-2010

Union employees at 17 Kroger stores in the Flint and Saginaw areas rejected a new 3-year labor contract last week and may now strike.
Officials said the current contract extension expires Tuesday.
The workers at the 14 Flint area stores are represented by Local 876, based in Madison Heights, while the workers at the three Saginaw stores are represented by Grand Rapids-based Local 951.
There are approximately 1,900 workers who are members of the United Food and Commercial Workers employed at the Kroger New Market Stores, the former Kessel stores purchased by Kroger in 2000.
