Murder-For-Hire Plotter Wants To Withdraw Plea 8-30-2010

A Midland County man serving a life sentence for allegedly conspiring to kill his ex-wife wants to withdraw his no contest plea.
Loren Wheeler, 43, claims he didn't understand the deal prosecutors offered him.
Prosecutors said he was the mastermind behind a plot to have his nephew kill his ex-wife.
Wheeler pleaded no contest to charges of solicitation of murder and conspiracy to commit premeditated first-degree murder earlier this year.
Investigators said Wheeler hired his nephew, Steven Mashue, 24, to kill his estranged wife on April 1 of last year at their Larkin Township home.
The plot was foiled when the nephew discovered the woman’s teenage son at the house and chose not to go through with it.
The motive was apparently an insurance policy on Wheeler’s wife.
Mashue is currently serving a 25-year sentence.
According to the prosecuting attorney, Wheeler will be eligible for parole in 15 years.
