First Day Back, Saginaw Twp. Buses Run Late 9-07-2010

Some Saginaw Township schools seemed to have a rough start to the first day of classes.
The school buses operating in the township were running substantially behind schedule.
Buses full of students finally left the Heritage High School parking lot around 3:30 p.m., close to an hour behind schedule.
That meant the buses picked up in the elementary-age students in the area late as well.
The township started a consolidation plan for this school year. Schools are no longer strictly neighborhood schools but are grade specific. One school might now house grades 1 and 2 instead of kindergarten through fifth grade.
Because of that, more kids will be riding the bus because they are not in their neighborhood and their school could be miles away from their house.
High school kids are released from campus around 2:40 p.m. and their bus takes them home. The bus then returns in time to take elementary school children home around 3:30 p.m.
Now that these buses are running an hour late, most likely children are waiting to be picked up from elementary school for their ride home.
TV5 has learned many elementary school kids were kept inside school gyms until the proper bus shows up to take them home.
Saginaw Township Community Schools did send out an "instant alert" at 4:23 p.m. stating the buses were running behind schedule so that all the student got on the proper buses. It also said buses traditionally run late the first week of school, but that today's tardiness was later than usual.
The alert also had an apology to parents for any inconvenience the late buses caused.
