MSP Releases Labor Day Fatal Crash Statistics 9-08-2010

The Michigan State Police reported on Wednesday that a total of 13 people lost their lives in nine separate traffic crashes during the 2010 Labor Day holiday weekend.
In comparison, authorities said 16 people died in traffic crashes during the 2009 Labor Day weekend.
Of the 13 victims, police said seven were found not using any type of seat belt restraint, and alcohol was a factor in two of the nine fatal crashes.
"These numbers are preliminary and only reflect those fatalities reported to the MSP as of 10 a.m. today," said Capt. Monica L. Yesh, commander of the MSP Traffic Safety Division. "The numbers show a decrease in fatalities from the same holiday period last year."
The MSP continues to urge motorists not to drink and drive, and wear their safety belts at all times.
