Inner City Kids Get Free Backpacks For School 9-09-2010

Citizens Bank in downtown Saginaw launched a major initiative earlier Thursday for inner-city school children.
More than 100 backpacks loaded with school supplies were handed out to students at Arthur Eddy Academy.
"I got pencils, and notebooks and a new backpack," said one happy kid to TV5 reporter Jay Brandow.
One hundred big, bright smiles went along with the backpacks handed out by the bank. Now the students have the tools they need to crack the books and get a fresh start on the school year.
Richard Kemerer, from Citizen's Bank, said helping kids is a solid investment. "This gives me so much pleasure, I wish we could do this everyday," said Kemerer.
Arthur Eddy principal Trent Mosley said it felt like Christmas in September. "When you have businesses partnering together to enrich student lives, you can't feel anything but joy for what's taking place," said Mosley.
Fifth grader Sharice Mack spoke on behalf of her classmates and expressed gratitude to the organizers. "I just wanted to say thank you to Citizens Bank for the backpack and all the stuff in it," she said.
Stuffed inside those backpacks were pencils, paper, a calculator, water bottle and written encouragement to do well in class.
