Classic Rides Set To Cruise Frankenmuth Streets 9-10-2010

More than 2,500 classic cars, street rods and muscle cars will roll through Frankenmuth this weekend.
The 2010 Frankenmuth Auto Fest kicks off Friday with the traditional Big Block Party on Main Street beginning at 5 p.m.
Event organizers said more than 100,000 car enthusiast are expected to attend the three-day festival.
The classic cars will be on display all day Saturday and Sunday in Heritage Park on Weiss Street.
The festival will also showcase live bands, street vendors and shopping.
Meanwhile, Frankenmuth police are anticipating heavy traffic congestion through much of downtown beginning Friday afternoon.
Police said Main Street (M-83) will be closing at 4:20 p.m. This closure will restrict any movement both northbound and southbound on Main Street.
East and Westbound traffic will be limited but not totally restricted.
Main Street will be opened up to classic cars for general parking around 5:05 p.m.
Once the vehicles are parked, pedestrians will be free to walk amongst the cars in the street. This closure will be in effect until 10:00 p.m. when the police department will start to clear the parked traffic off Main Street to reopen for regular traffic flow.
On Saturday motorists should expect delays in the area of Jefferson and Weiss streets.
If you are not registering a car in the Auto Fest, it is recommended this area be avoided since you will experience traffic congestion.
Later in the evening when traffic congestion begins exiting Heritage Park, actions will be taken by the police department to relieve congestion, which may include, but not limited to -- overriding traffic signals by directing traffic northbound on Main Street to relieve the congestion experienced on Weiss Street exiting Heritage Park.
