Natl. Guard Battalion To Ship Out To Kuwait 9-13-2010

More than 100 Mid-Michigan Army National Guardsmen are spending their last night with family and friends before shipping out to Kuwait.
The battalion, from Alma, Mich., has 131 soldiers and will meet up with other National Guard battalions at Fort Custer on Tuesday before reaching their final destination where they'll be stationed for one year.
The troops will be helping move soldiers and equipment in and out of Iraq.
"It's an honor and at the same time it's a challenge, so there's a lot of things we have to take care of in terms of planning and organizing," said 1st Lt. James Bennett. "We're going over in what's likely to be less dangerous than what's already occurred. Many of our troops have already been deployed, some of our soldiers have been deployed twice already since 9-11, so for them it's another opportunity to go over."
Members from the Bravo Battery, First Battalion, 119th Field Artillery are getting ready to depart from the Alma Armory at 9 a.m. and the soldiers will have a Patriot Guard escorting them.
Fort Custer is located between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo in Michigan.
"It's really something that we're excited about and that we're really hoping goes well and [we're] looking forward to coming home next year," said Bennett.
