I-675 Detour Causes Back Ups During Commute 9-15-2010

Construction in Saginaw has been more than the average driving headache the last few days.
On Monday, the entrance to southbound Interstate 675 was blocked.
Motorists are now being rerouted onto Davenport Avenue, over the Johnson Street Bridge and then are funneled to downtown Saginaw.
Drivers say the traffic jams are the worst during the morning and evening commutes.
Derrick Pittman works across the street from the Dow Events Center at the Saginaw Plaza Hotel. He said he's watched the mess every day this week.
"Traffic wise, there's a lot of stuff going on, we've got a lot of flow coming through," Pittman said.
A woman who works downtown told WNEM TV5 the traffic congestion is even impacting the bus service.
Meanwhile, MDOT is asking motorists to be patient while crews finish up work on I-675.
"Anytime there's construction you're going to have to slow down," MDOT spokesperson Anita Richardson said. "Our hope is that there will be a good outcome and there will be a better ride to come."
The construction on I-675 is expected to wrap up Sept. 20, while the ramp is supposed to reopen on Monday.
Were you affected by the detour? How did you navigate yourself downtown?
