Ex-Church Leader Charged With Embezzlement 9-16-2010

A former church leader is headed to trial on charges he embezzled more than $100,000 from a house of worship.
Robert Mathis has been accused of taking the money from Christ Lutheran Church.
Mathis is facing six felony charges, including one count of conducting a criminal enterprise.
If convicted, that charge alone carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Mathis has also been charged with three counts of forgery and third-degree money laundering.
The 64-year-old served as president of the Birch Run-based congregation for 12 years.
He remains lodged in the Saginaw County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
