Deputies Hold Picket Over Possible Budget Cuts 9-17-2010

Sheriff's deputies in Saginaw County began picketing in front of the county courthouse Friday morning.
The informational picket is being held to "get the word" out about looming layoffs in road, patrol services and cuts at the county jail.
County Commissioners will meet next week to decide how to handle a projected $6.6 million deficit before the new fiscal year begins on Oct. 1.
Last week, the Board of Commissioners Budget-Audit Subcommittee on Appropriations denied Sheriff Bill Federspiel's plan to take up to $3 million from an $11.5 million payroll reserve fund.
Federspiel has warned that laying off up to 16 sheriff's department personnel, "will be dangerous" for public safety.
A second informational picket is scheduled to take place Tuesday.
