Hugh Jackman Begins Filming Movie In Thumb 9-17-2010

Crews from the movie "This Must be the Place" wrapped up shooting last week on the Sean Penn flick, but another movie will be coming right into Huron County.
An even larger crew will be in the area next week for DreamWorks' upcoming flick "Real Steel."
The movie stars Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly and is directed by Shawn Levy. Steven Spielberg is an executive producer on the project.
It's one of the biggest studio pictures ever to film in Michigan. The movie began filming in June around Detroit, Mason, Grosse Ile and Leslie, Mich.
Film crews are expected to be shooting further scenes in Huron County's Paris and Bingham townships this week.
The website IMDB reported the film is "a future-set story where robot boxing is a popular sport and a struggling promoter (Jackman) thinks he's found a champion in a discarded robot." The film's release date is set as Nov. 18, 2011.
Meanwhile, a new report Friday said Michigan's aggressive tax incentive program for the movie industry is not a good deal for the state budget.
The nonpartisan Senate Fiscal Agency report said about $37.5 million in credits during the 2008-09 fiscal year reflected nearly $98 million in private spending.
But nearly half of the spending left Michigan and didn't contribute to economic activity in the state, the report said.
The report estimates the additional economic activity sparked by the credits raised less than $4 million in additional tax revenue for the 2008-09 fiscal year.
The credits have created some jobs and publicity for Michigan but at a high cost. The Michigan Film Office is expected to respond to the report.
