Feds Still Interested In Standish Maximum Prison 9-21-2010

Despite the results of a recent study, the Standish Maximum Correctional Facility still has a chance to be purchased by the federal government.
A study found that an Illinois prison is more move-in ready than the Standish facility. The prison is being considered to house federal inmates.
Officials said Standish max is older, smaller, and would need more renovations than the Illinois site.
Now the feds will use a more in-depth environmental impact study to assess the site.
A delegation from the Federal Bureau of Prisons inspected Standish Max in August.
The prison was considered for housing terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, but another was chosen.
The Standish prison was shuttered Oct. 31, 2009 because of state budget cuts.
