Deal To Buy Mich. Bridge For $1 Falls Through 9-27-2010

Not with a truck. Not for a buck.
A deal to sell a western Michigan pedestrian bridge for $1 has gone bust.
Officials say a man who responded last year to an Internet posting for the 39-year-old structure missed a June 1 deadline and stopped returning calls.
The unidentified buyer previously said the bridge would be used to provide access to an island in a private pond in Alma, about 80 miles east of Muskegon.
The sale hinged on the new owner moving the span from Egelston Township near Muskegon.
Township Supervisor Mike Thompson told The Muskegon Chronicle he has "been patient too long."
Egelston Township used the bridge to give students safe passage to an elementary school.
The school no longer is used for elementary students.
