'Super Mega' Food Giveaway Draws Thousands 9-30-2010

Faith-based community organization Parishioners on Patrol, along with several other groups, hosted a 30,000-pound food giveaway Thursday morning.
The "Super Mega Food Giveaway" began at 11 a.m. at the SVRC Industries parking lot, 1000 Tuscola in Saginaw. The giveaway is a drive-through-only event and is open to all Saginaw County residents and ended once the food was gone.
All that was needed to participate was a driver's license or state ID, officials said.
"It took a lot of planning to pull this one off -- this is the big one," said co-founder Rev. Larry Camel. "Because of the lack of employment and underpaid jobs there is a great need of food in our community."
The donated food boxes included canned goods, dried foods, produce and fresh vegetables.
Hidden Harvest, Greater Coleman Temple Church of God in Christ, New Faith Temple Church of God in Christ and the Saginaw County Community Action Committee were all co-hosts of the food giveaway.
