Saginaw Y Receives HealthPlus Rainmaker Grant 9-30-2010

The YMCA of Saginaw received a $3,500 HealthPlus Rainmaker Grant Thursday.
YMCA officials said the Saginaw Community Foundation decided to match the grant, giving the foundation $7,000 to help fund programs designed to promote healthier living.
Its Childhood & Family Obesity program will target the south east area in the city of Saginaw, which has a higher number of low income persons, unemployed persons and single parent households, officials said.
HealthPlus established the Rainmaker Awards Program in 1994 as a means to support community health initiatives. The name is derived from Native American folklore, where "Rainmakers" are tribal leaders who make good things happen.
