State Police Warn County Of 'Gypsy' Con Artists 10-01-2010

The Michigan State Police Department is warning residents about con artists who are scamming homeowners out of money in the Sanillac County area.
Police said most "gypsy scam" occur when a con artist approaches a homeowner and offers to provide low-cost home improvements. The con artist will do the work, collect their pay and leave before the homeowner is aware of the substandard work.
"Gypsy scams" are named after the traveling con artists who perform the scams, according to police.
Police said most people can avoid these scams by doing business with local companies
